This is the story of Gulab Devi Kamat, a resident of Morang District Biratnagar Municipal Corporation Ward No. 4. She was born as the second child of Rajendra Rai, a resident of Araria district in India.
Gradually the days passed, and she became of the age of marriage. Born into a poor family, Gulab's marriage also became a poor family. When she was married 24 years ago, her husband worked as a laborer in a hardware store. He had a monthly salary of Rs 800, which made it difficult for him to support his family. He did not even have his own house. Being poor, they lived in another person's house. It was very difficult for them to live in others house. So Gulab wanted to live in a good house on her land, send her children to a good school, and run her own business. But the irony is that poverty did not allow her dream to come true, and life remained the same, very painful.
Her husband had worked in a hardware store for many years and had a good experience in this field. That is why it came to her mind that by opening a shop of her own, progress can be made by use of her husband's skill and hard work. But Gulab remained silent as she wondered who would lend them money, as they were poor and did not even own land. Likewise, time was passing.
In this context, a new center of the Jeevan Bikas branch office Biratnagar, was built around 2066 in Gulab's village. Gulab came to know that Jeevan Bikas would give her a loan without collateral, now she showed the possibility of her dream coming true. She joined the organization's center number 36 on 2066-09-30. In order to relieve the pain of not having a house or land in the past, she first took a loan of Rs. 8000 as first installment to buy the land and in order to complete the money in 3 years, she signed a deal of 50000. As per the deal signed, she took a loan of Rs 20,000 for the second time and bought the land by adding Rs 12,000 from her self earning. Gulab's first dream came true. After that, they decided to open a hardware store, found a shutter and started the shop by taking another loan of Rs 1 lakh. There was a good income from the shop which completed most of her needs. Children got the opportunity to study in good school. After earning a good income from the shop, savings were also made after meeting all her expenses. Since the tractors were required to transport goods sold at the hardware store, they started saving every month to buy the tractor.
After saving 11 lakh rupees, they went to buy a tractor, but the price of the tractor was 12 lakh then they took a loan of 1 lakh rupees from Jeevan Bikas and bought a tractor by adding 11 lakh rupees. They also hired a driver to drive a tractor. After earning Rs 60,000 to 70,000 a month from shops and tractors, they decided to build a house hence, took a home loan of Rs 2 lakh added some saving amount and built a beautiful house. Now all the wishes of the Gulab have been fulfilled.
Now, Gulab and her family are happy. She says, "All my dreams came true in 11 years, because I started raising money by joining Jeevan Bikas. My husband, who works in other's shop, has succeeded in employing others. Our son is studying in class 12 and daughter is studying in class 10. Cooperation of Jeevan Bikas and our hard work have made all our dreams come true. On my personal behalf, I would like to express my heartly gratitude to the Jeevan Bikas Branch Office, Biratnagar and all the employees working in it. "
